Chandi

(Airport West)

Hello, my name is Chandi.

I’ve lived in Airport West and been part of the of the community for over 30 years.  I am honoured to have been nominated for the Excellence Awards in Family Day Care in 2021. I hold a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, obtained in 2011, and a Certificate III in Children's Services.

Before joining Our Village in 2020, I was a Family Day Care Educator with Moonee Valley. I provide a safe, friendly, happy, and nurturing environment both indoors and outdoors, where children can grow, learn, and develop at their own pace.

My teaching philosophy is to foster a high-quality educational experience in a family-like setting. I believe in creating a safe, hygienic, nurturing, and fun environment where children feel secure, valued, and respected. I aim to support each child's individual growth and development through engaging activities that cater to their interests and needs.

I am also a Sinhalese language teacher. I have taught grade 1 students since 1992 at the Brunswick Sri Lankan Community Group. I was awarded the Teacher of the Year Award by community languages Australia and Victoria. This experience gives me a unique perspective on developing skills within children that are critical for success in primary school.

I love being an Educator because I get to build lasting relationships with children and their families. Many of the children that went through my program continue to visit me as young adults, and we continue to have a strong bond. This is one of the many reasons why I continue to provide my services as an Educator.

My working days are Monday to Friday.
