Mabuhay! I am Perpetua Acosta, you can also call me Pet.
I have a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care and have been an Educator since 2017. I started with Our Village Family Childcare in 2019. As a Family Day Care Educator with Our Village, I offer a safe, nurturing, and fun environment -- a home away from home for the children under my care who are treated like my own family.
MY PHILOSOPHY AS AN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATOR
As an Early Childhood Educator, I do believe that:
• Every child is unique;
• Every child comes from a family that has their culture, beliefs, and values; and
• Every child develops at their own pace and time.
As an Early Childhood Educator, I aim to ensure that:
• Each child is treated as an individual and their differences valued;
• Each child’s family is respected and acknowledged as partners; and
• Each child’s development program is created to cater to their specific needs.
To borrow a quote from the author Judy Turner of the book Creative Play:
“Play is vital to the normal development of a child; he/she learns more through play than by any other means.”
With this premise in mind, for the children to reach their full development physically, emotionally, intellectually, and socially, I believe that the primary base of young children’s learning is play. As children are happiest when they are playing, their minds are open to learning especially during play.
Young children are continually playing, whether outside or inside, rain or shine. And during play, there is a good mix of child-initiated and child-run activities. As the educator, I need to guide and help them to make the most of learning opportunities at every play activity that are relevant to their age, abilities, interests and needs.
WHY I LOVE BEING AN EDUCATOR AND ACTIVITIES I LOVE DOING WITH THE CHILDREN
Being able to help the young children develop into smart, good, and happy people fuels my everyday life as an educator.
I love when I bring the children in playgrounds and parks to explore the environment and the world. I read books with them to develop their passion for reading. I do art and craft activities with them to promote creativity. We also do puzzles together to stimulate their cognitive and problem-solving skills.
I was born and raised in the Philippines, migrated to New Zealand and moved to Australia in 2016. I come from a very big family (I have 8 siblings and 17 nieces and nephews). I love dancing, singing, and decorating. I am an active parishioner at St Anne and Our Lady of Mount Carmel parishes in Sunbury.
